Single Phase Motor Winding Diagram | Main/Auxiliary Winding Connection

In this post I am writing some basic notes about the single phase motor winding diagram which helps you to understand the single phase motor internally winding and its connection. In this post I am share a AC current single phase capacitor start induction run motor internally winding structure diagram which will help you to clear the basic concept of one phase induction motor winding connection.

Single Phase Motor Winding Diagram – Main Winding and Starting winding

In single phase induction motor we have two types of winding coils in stator. In which one is made from thick wire and 2nd is made from the thin wire. For example one winding made from 21 SWG (Standard Wire Gauge) and 2nd is made from 26 SWG.

The 21 SWG is bigger in size from 26 SWG wire. The bigger size wire winding coils are called the main winding or running winding and the lower size of wire coil are called auxiliary or starting winding.

The point where these two winding are connected together is called common point. From where the common connection wire comes out.

For example if you have 2 end of main winding and 2 ends of auxiliary winding. So the one end of main winding will connect to an end of starting winding. This point will called common point as I told in my above words and the common connection will come out from here.

The other end of main winding will called the run wire, from where the run wire will come out to connection plate or terminals.

The other end of starting winding will called the start connection.
So we have three connection or wire which is called start, run and common. In single phase motor the capacitor will connect between the run and start wire. While the single phase supply is connected to run and common.

So we can said that if we have neutral and phase (Line). So if we connect the neutral wire to common. And then we connect the phase wire to run wire. So the capacitor will connect between the run and start in series. Are we can said that we pass the supply to starting winding through the capacitor but note that we capacitor will always connect between run and start As I shown in the below diagram.

In the above diagram I shown a basic structure of single phase motor winding diagram, in the diagram I shown the main winding as running winding and auxiliary winding as starting winding. I highlight the common point, run and start point. The capacitor is connected between run and start point. And the AC supply will connect to the common and run point.
I hope this single phase motor winding diagram clear your concept about the single phase induction motor internally winding connection. However in the diagram I shown two coils in which one is main and other auxiliary winding coil. In real we have more than one coil of main winding and also starting winding of single phase motor. So this just en example for you to understand the single phase induction motor winding connection.
